Ethyl formate

Ethyl formate is an ester formed when ethanol reacts with formic acid. It is also known as ethyl methanoate because ethanol (an alcohol) and methanoic acid (a carboxylic acid also known as formic acid) are used to form it. Ethyl formate has the characteristic smell of rum. This molecule is also responsible for the flavor of raspberries.
